IV" construit en stratifié par Doug Brooker de Sydney,
From Facebook 2023 "Pilgrim
was one of 3 S&S yachts built in Dee Why Sydney by Doug Brooker. The other
two were a 1/4 tonner called Jiminy Cricket. This was Dougs own yacht. He also
built the 1/2 tonner Defiance for his father Norm who sold it to my father.
He also built a Bob Miller, Joe Adams designed 1/2 tonner for Tig Thomas called
PlumCrazy."

1972 Brisbane-Gladstone
race: DNF
From Facebook 2023 "Pilgrim was in the fleet
that got smoked by cyclone Emily in the 1972 Brisbane-Gladstone race (which
claimed about 8 or 9 lives). Weather reporting not being what it is today the
cyclone warning came a fraction too late, just after the morning sked, as the
fleet was running hard towards the eye. Approaching Gladstone a decision had
to be made whether to stay inside, - between the islands of the southern part
of the great barrier reef and the mainland (only about 15miles of sea-room in
either direction)-, or go wide (for some sea room). She was a pretty tough boat
Pilgrim, they abandoned the race and went wide (about 80 miles off the coast)
and hoved-to. By all accounts they went through the eye, 100mph winds from one
direction, then a brief calm before 100mph winds from the opposite direction.
There was a trimaran in that race that accounted for some of the deaths, by
all accounts their last radio contact with Gladstone radio went something like
this "we're running at 12kts under bare poles, we can't slow the boat down,
we can see a lighthouse up ahead but we don't know what it is". That was
shortly before they hit the bricks at Bustard Head south of Gladstone and some
of them didn't make it."
