is a fast and exciting racing sailboat, formally known as ZEPHYRUS 1V, and BRIGHTSTAR
she has continued to set course records and give her first two owners lots of
fun sailing at high speeds. BRIGHTSTAR was modified in early 2002 by moving
her headstay forward and adding to her boom and installing a 3 foot scoop. She
now has non overlapping headsails to make to bring her in line
with the 2003 IMS rules She is now almost identical to her sisterships, PEGASUS,
PYEWACKET and ENIGMA ( formally CHANCE) Her hull was repainted in 2001 and the
deck and bottom were repainted in 2005 Interior has been reiwred and repainted
and her owner has spared no expense to keep her in absolute top condition. She
has many spares and her new sail inventory will be in good shape for many races
too come...

Bill Turpin's Reichel/Pugh designed
78-foot Akela reside. “We completed a major refit
this spring to make the boat more competitive under IRC,” said
Turpin (Santa Cruz, Calif.). “We added a lot of
sail area and have a deeper draft. This will be a big test for us to see how
well we can do under IRC in a windy venue. We'll be racing against some very
hot TP52s. It will be interesting to see if we can finish far enough ahead of
them to win on corrected time.” Akela has shown significant strength
this year by winning the MEXORC, Newport to Ensenada and Coastal Cup races.
