Comment from Dutch QT Class Facebook,
November 2015: " Mohnhaupt
1/4 tonner '4 Samurais' that finished 4th at the 1978 Quarter Ton Worlds in
Japan. Taken in a place near her home port Nishinomiya not far from Osaka,
where she is still sailed. The designer Axel Mohnhaupt saw her the last time
some 6 years ago and she was in a terrific shape! Originally she was a daggerboarder,
but during the Japanese qualification regattas it turned out to be a disadvantage
particularly on downwind courses in stronger winds. For the Worlds the boa...t
was modified to a fixed keel and slightly fuller aft body sections, which
made her an entirely different boat. Axel was definitely satisfied with their
performance as they managed to be leading the short olympic courses on points.
The long distance races were quite a challenge particularly because of the
long down wind legs and later crazy winds changing from 45 to 1 kn within
half an hour in the middle of the night with most of the time bad visibility
and severe sea state. Luckily they had no material failure and no unfortunate
navigation."
