Received from Peter in 2022 "Contessa
35 “Festina Tertia” was built by Jeremy Rodgers in Lymington and
was finished in royal blue with a wide white upper band in a similar style to
the design used for Gumboots’, and had black anodised aluminium spars
and rod rigging. Festina Tertia had wheel steering and a fully fitted interior.
The original owner “George Green” was
a lawyer from Cradley Heath, Warley, West Midlands in the UK and the yacht was
available for racing charters through Festina Yachts based in Lymington, Hampshire,
UK. I myself raced the yacht at Cowes Week in 1978 and the yacht was chartered
to a Mr. Moody for the 1979 Fastnet Race. The yacht was based at Lymington Yacht
Haven alongside other boats available for charter from Festina Yachts.
One of the crew of the yacht (Roger Watts) was
lost overboard on the Fastnet Race in 1979 and so the yacht retired from the
race and returned to Lymington. During that race I was myself skipper of another
Festina Charter yacht called “Festina Quarta” which was a Contessa
43 and we managed to survive the storm and we completed the race, but we started
off with 10 crew and finished with 20 people on board after saving 10 people
from the water on our way to the finish in Plymouth.
After the Fastnet Race Festina Tertia competed in the Round Britain Race on
charter but was eventually returned to private ownership. I am not sure where
she is now but her sail number was K4187 as shown in the photo I sent previously"
