From Facebook 2021 "This the the "original" Stars and Stripes designed by Nelson Marek for the 1983 Canada's Cup. I did bow on this boat with my brother David Askew, Dave "BZ" Lyons, Marc Augier, Stu Argo, the Lattie brothers and a bunch of other Bayview Yacht Club junior sailing graduates. Challenger trials were exceptional and the boat won, but lost the cup to Coug in a design mismatch. Bill Martin ran a fantastic campaign and routinely brought in ringers like Tom Blackaller and Lowell North. Dave and Lyndon Lattie went on to win the next round of the Canada's cup on Challenge 88(?). Thanks for saving her from the landfill!!! We sanded the bottom of that boat about 100 times that summer of '83. Will post some pictures of that summer later."
