2009 3 janvier: arrive à Hobart.
Février: At 22.00hr UTC Derek Hatfield departed Hobart, Tasmania on the reconditioned IMOCA 60 Algimouss Spirit of Canada, he is determined to complete the course that he started in November as a participant in the Vendee Globe single handed race around the world.
17 mars: stopped in New Zealand. The problem with the main autopilot that has persisted.
Juin: IMOCA Open 60 - Spirit of Canada for sale, Built ito a high standard in Canada from carbon pre-preg and honeycomb core. Builders from Goetz (USA) and JMV (France) ensuring a professional build and fit out. This yacht was designed by Owen-Clarke, closely modeled on the highly succesful Ecover 2 (winner Transat 2004, 3rd Vendee Globe 2004/2005) and is effectively her sistership except for tiller steering, design upgrades and her three spreader classic rig. Launched 2006, limited funding for racing means this yacht will come up for sale with a relatively low mileage compared to others of her genre. She is an eligible  contender for the Eco division in the VELUX 5 OCEANS RACE 2010-11 (subject to confirmation by the race organisers).
